In 1996, in one of the hospitals in Pennsylvania, a patient becomes ill. Doctors and nurses come to the rescue, they do everything possible. A young nurse, who was the first to respond to help, watches as the patient dies. 7 years have passed, the action of the film is transferred to 2003, to a hospital located in New Jersey. The main character, a kind and sensitive girl Amy, works here. She has a good reputation among colleagues, bosses, but most importantly, her patients love her. She is loyal to the relatives of patients, even allows them to stay together for longer than is allowed by the regulations of the clinic. She has two children herself, but because of work she can't spend much time with them.

Amy has a serious illness, an urgent heart transplant is required, otherwise she will die. The girl does not have the time and money for this, she still needs to work for 4 months, then she will receive medical insurance. In order not to lose her, Amy hides her illness from everyone at work. A new employee, charming Charles, comes to the hospital. Warm relations are immediately established between them. One day, during the night shift, Amy becomes ill, and Charles finds out about the illness. After listening to the girl, the young man makes a promise to keep her secret. Amy is grateful to Charles, but two consecutive deaths at the clinic change the relationship between them. Who is Charles really, how far can the desire to help and compassion bring.
