This artistic painting originates on an island called Hashima. However, its indigenous people decided to give this place a different name, calling it Kunham. This island is very close to Nagasaki. This place began to gain momentum quite strongly in the extraction of natural coal, from which specialists in this field had to move to Hasima. It was at the end of the nineteenth century, when there was peace and prosperity.

But the tranquility of citizens comes to an end at the moment when a truly brutal and bloody war is unleashed, after which most men had to leave their homes, going to defend their homeland, and instead of coal mining, this island turned into a prison. Thus, this place became a gathering of Chinese prisoners of war, as well as people who moved from Korea. It was very difficult to make an escape, but there was still a small probability. So the main role is played by Lee Gang-ok, the man leading the orchestra. At one point, he is persuaded by one person to get a job in Japan, giving his guarantees of one hundred percent employment. However, Lee did not even suspect how it would all end for him.
