The king Sun Louis XIV, having ended in 1684 war with Spain, comes back to Versailles. But not restoration by the undermined war of economy and monetary circulation, and immortality finding becomes his first thought. It can be done, having caught the mermaid in the sea and having sacrificed her during a solar eclipse. Meanwhile the illegitimate daughter of the king Mari-Joseph living with the birth in the monastery somewhere away from Paris learned to play a violoncello and to go by a horse. But even more she likes to swim in the sea that girls are not recommended to do. When the mermaid, at last, is caught, the King Sun remembers the daughter and decides to invite her to the Palace of Versailles.

The daughter is quite to herself the beauty, but not absolutely adapted for court life. In the palace she became friends with the caught mermaid, the guarantor of immortality of the king. Rusalka and Mari-Joseph compose songs which are even pleasant to Louis and also together swim in the sea. Then, at some point, the king remembers monetary problems of the country and decides that the daughter should be married to the rich count who will solve all monetary problems of the country, for this purpose he got out the daughter of the monastery. But Mari-Joseph already managed to fall in love meanwhile with the captain of the sailing vessel which caught the Mermaid.
