Stephen Strange works as a neurosurgeon, he is a well-known doctor in his field, ready to come to the aid of patients at any time. A man spends too much time in the operating unit, for him work is the meaning of life and without it he most likely simply will not be able to exist. Fate decided to test him, one day returning from another conference at high speed, he gets into a terrible accident, where he gets too badly injured. The main blow fell on his hands, after such a serious injury, he will never be able to operate, the limbs are not able to carry out even simple manipulations, the fingers do not obey their owner, dooming him to eternal suffering. This state of affairs introduces the main character into depression, but gathering his strength, he decides to find a way to regain the past. At one of the recovery club meetings, Stephen encounters a former patient, the guy was completely paralyzed, medicine could not help him cope with the ailment, but by some miracle he now moved perfectly on his own two feet.

Strange is trying to find out from Janatan Pengborne how he managed to recover so quickly, especially since the man had no chances. The cured patient tells the doctor that he discovered a temple in Camara-Taja, located in Naples, where a special teacher is serving, who is able to restore internal strength and influence the regeneration of the whole body. Having received valuable information, the neurosurgeon collects the remaining money and goes to meet his dream, trying to recover and return to his beloved work. He succeeds after a strange case of robbery. To be with the Ancient One, who opens a completely different world to Strange, one that he did not even suspect, after which the main character begins to ask for her as an apprentice. After much persuasion, the woman decides to accept him and teach him magic, although she knows that this can lead to very serious consequences.
