The film takes place in 1914, when Friend decides to go to a distant island located in the South Atlantic. The man who lived there before couldn't stand the harsh climate and died of typhus, and now the Irishman will replace him, becoming the new neighbor of the lighthouse keeper Gruner. The main task of the main character is to record weather readings, he is a meteorologist, and the guy really likes the job. Arriving at the place, the new neighbor was not particularly happy with the Friend, his greeting was too cold and disapproving.

The island seems too strange to the Friend, especially he is carried away by the rocks near the shore, arranged in a strange order. At night, when the man was planning to go to bed, they began knocking on his door with incredible force, he managed to close the shutters and survive that night. But the next day, more mysterious creatures came to his house, who began to beat insistently at the doors, the meteorologist was able to drive them away only after setting fire to his own house. Left without a place to sleep, he decides to go to Gruner, but he does not want to let him in, because he hides a mysterious intelligent sea creature.
